About

My name is Abby Jeffers, and I’m driven by storytelling, from researching LGBTQ+ issues to promoting brands I believe in. I enjoy the challenge of tailoring messages and voice to each audience, and I love to work within a brand and a voice to create a compelling story.

I have a demonstrated history of content creation, from reporting news to distilling complex into a weekly newsletter. I have enjoyed working with a number of LGBTQ+ youth organizations to create social media, blog, and newsletter content, including the Human Rights Campaign, the Kaleidoscope Youth Center, and the Attic Youth Center. Most recently, I served as a German Chancellor Fellow with the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, researching the intersection of science and activism in the LGBTQ+ space in Germany’s history and asking questions about which forms of knowledge we privilege, whose voices are preserved in archival spaces, and how LGBTQ+ advocacy has evolved over the past century in Germany.

I’m also a graduate of Ohio University‘s E. W. Scripps School of Journalism in Athens, Ohio, with a Bachelor of Science in Journalism and certificates in LGBT Studies and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies.

While at Ohio University, I was a recipient of the Wood Cutler Scholar Award, a full merit scholarship that includes funding for four enrichment experiences: an outdoor leadership experience, a public service internship, a professional internship, and an international experience. On campus, I was an on-air DJ and News Editor for ACRN Media, Ohio University’s student radio group and music publication. For the radio, I hosted a weekly specialty show, The Rainbow Hour, and in the editorial department, I curated, edited and wrote music news articles for ACRN.com. I also worked as a reporter for The Post, the independent student newspaper at Ohio University, and ran Indientry, a music publication for which I created biweekly content, including album reviews, interviews, features, concert photos and a monthly podcast titled The Nextwave Sessions. I have written for several other publications, and I have written music news, features, and reviews for In The Record Store‘s website and magazine and have also participated in a weekly music column for ThisWeek Community News. I also occasionally write and edit feature articles for Sophisticated Living Columbus.
