The music scene in Athens is alive and well, even in the dead of winter, so check out the upcoming shows below and fill up your February with live music!

Who: DJ Barticus Y2K Millennium Dance Party
When: February 1, 9 pm
Where: The Union, 18 W Union St

Local celebrity and lover of jumpsuits DJ Barticus is set to host an all-night party at The Union on Friday. Enjoy a night of throwbacks and dancing as DJ Barticus spins hits from the late ‘90s and early ‘00s. Find more information here.

Where: The Smiling Skull, 108 W Union St

Head over to the Union on Saturday, February 2 for a little local psych-rock, rockabilly-metal and indie-metal from Peach Fuzz, Hell’s Fire Sinners and Umman Manda, respectively. Check out the Facebook event page for more information.

Who: Counterfeit Madison, Crooked Spines, Sweat Workers

Counterfeit Madison returns to Athens after a hit performance at WLCI’s Falloutfest in September 2018, but this time, the Columbus funk-rock band will be accompanied by local groups Crooked Spines and Sweat Workers. More information can be found here.

Who: Burger Big, Taung Child, Wasp Factory
When: February 7, 9 pm
Where: The Union, 18 W Union St

With a lineup of three relatively new bands, two of which are local, this night will certainly be novel. Athens bands Burger Big and Taung Child will be accompanied by Columbus post-punk duo Wasp Factory. Find more information here.

Who: Slackluster, Venus Flytraps, The Wastemen
When: February 7, 8 pm

To celebrate the release of their latest album, “Dayo!”, Athens rockers Slackluster will be joined by Cleveland garage outfit The Venus Flytraps and The Wastemen, another rock band from Athens. Find more information here.

Who: STEMS, Water Witches, King Buu

Along with psych-rock outfit Water Witches and Cleveland rockers King Buu, Columbus band STEMS will bring their suave blend of hip-hop and rock that is quickly becoming popular in the local scene. More information can be found here.

Local funk-rock trio Caution Step will play a release show for their unnamed debut studio record, accompanied by Columbus psych-rockers BareFuzz and In The Pines, a Cincinnati rock five-piece with a touch of jazz. Find more information here.

Who: WIMI Galentine’s Day Showcase featuring Megan Wren, Caitlin Kraus, Allison DeWitt, Magnolia Child and Lexi Murray

This will be the first-ever Galentine’s Day fundraiser for Ohio University’s Women In the Music Industryorganization and will include performances from several members and other musicians, including Megan Wren, Caitlin Kraus, Allison DeWitt, Magnolia Child and Lexi Murray. Spare ChangeCaution Step and Shrine will unite forces on February 16 in a psych-rock charity show at Whiskers. All donations from the show will benefit Cool Earth, an NGO dedicated to fighting deforestation and climate change. Find more information here.

Americana duo The War and Treaty will bring a night of vulnerability and soul music to Stuart’s Opera House in late February, performing tracks from their debut studio album, Healing Tide. More information can be found here.
