Philadelphia DIY-pop artist and Grimalkin Records collective member Don’t Do It, Neil, also known as musician Mabel Harper, explores love and loneliness on her latest pulsing and constantly morphing bedroom pop record, which is titled B/X and was released on September 20 on Grimalkin Records.
B/X, out Friday, September 20 on Grimalkin Records, is highly rhythmic and eclectic, and though it’s a solidly experimental bedroom pop record, its 11 tracks also reflect hints of electronic music and R&B. Regardless of the genre tint, however, each song on B/X is captivating with its constantly shifting sound and shimmering pop vibes.
The record is a stunning one, and its experimental tracks and bright, colorful tones are as captivating as they are masterful. Everything about B/X feels carefully crafted, and there’s an irresistible magnetism to the glinting pop music as Harper delves into a near-constant tug-of-war between dissonance and sheer desire.
Other than its availability on streaming platforms, B/X is also available for purchase on a bubblegum pink cassette and 12″ vinyl lathe cut from Grimalkin Records. Cassette and vinyl purchases also come with two stickers, a button and a handwritten note.
Proceeds from vinyl sales support future releases on Grimalkin Records, and cassette sales got to No More Dysphoria in Philadelphia, a non-profit organization created with the goal of helping transgender people pay for major aspects of their transition.
Proceeds from digital sales of B/X go to and directly support Don’t Do It, Neil.
